Lieutenant Ram Prakash Roperia was one of our great Indian army officers. He was born on 10 June 1959 in Pali village in Hisar, Haryana. He completed his primary studies in a village only and after that, he went to Sainik School, Kunjpura in Haryana to complete his higher studies. He took admitted to Haryana Agricultural University for pursuing B.Sc. (Hons) in Agri. and passed with the First distinction.
Lieutenant Ram was interested in joining the army so after completing the studies he went to Indian Military Academy. On 19 December 1981, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Indian Army. In 1983 he was promoted to lieutenant.
In 1984, he was part of Operation Blue Star. During the operation, the situation was getting worst but Lt Ram Prakash Roperia studied the situation very well and handled everything smartly.
During the mission, he was hit by two bullets and seriously injured. On that day while his treatment he took his last breath and died.
He was awarded India's highest peacetime military decoration Ashoka Chakra for his gallant act in Operation Blue Star.
